SCHNEIDER ELAU MAX-4/11/03/128/99/1/1/00
According to reports, this robot was specifically designed to grab and move newly cast aluminum car parts. When the accident occurred, it pressed the engineer to the ground, inserted metal claws into his arms and back, and left a bloodstain on the factory floor. At that time, the engineer was writing software for two malfunctioning robots near him.
Subsequently, a colleague promptly pressed the emergency stop button of the robot, thus avoiding more serious accidents.
This accident was disclosed in the work injury report submitted to the local regulatory agency, which resulted in the victim leaving an open wound on their left hand. Tesla’s Texas factory did not report any other robot related injury accidents to regulatory agencies in 2021 or 2022.
The report states that Tesla must submit work-related injury reports to government agencies in accordance with the law to maintain its generous tax benefits in Texas. Tesla explained in the report that the engineer was “slightly injured” and did not require any rest time. However, this still raises concerns about the working environment at Tesla’s Texas factory.
A lawyer representing contract workers at Tesla’s Texas factory told The Daily Mail that based on her conversations with factory workers, she believed the number of injuries at the factory was underreported.
IT Home note: According to a survey by The Information, in 2022, one out of every 21 workers at Tesla’s Texas factory was injured at work, while the industry median was one injury per 30 people. Due to the accelerated construction speed of the factory, there have been lax safety measures and an increase in the number of injuries.
