Yokogawa Electric Corporation and Shell jointly developed the advanced control and estimation platform R5.03 as OpreX ™ The solutions for asset operation and optimization series will be officially released on June 2nd.

The Advanced Control and Estimation Platform is a software package that integrates Shell’s advanced factory process control technology and Yokogawa’s real-time control technology, helping customers improve productivity by increasing production and reducing energy consumption. This version supports the latest version of the communication standard OPC UA * (Open Platform Communications Unified Architecture), which improves the interoperability and security of factory systems and provides a foundation for digital transformation to help customers transition towards industrial autonomy.
*OPC is an interoperability standard for safe and reliable data exchange in the field of industrial automation and other industries. OPC UA does not rely on hardware or operating systems, and has high security and scalability, which is recognized as the basic communication standard of Industry 4.0.
Development background
Advanced Process Control (APC) systems increase production capacity and reduce energy consumption by keeping temperature, flow rate, pressure, and other process values within a set range and bringing them as close as possible to the optimal set value. Such systems are increasingly being applied in facilities such as refineries, petrochemical plants, chemical plants, and liquefied natural gas pipelines.
Yokogawa’s advanced control and estimation platform suite provides the following functions:
Multivariable Model Predictive Control (multivariable control predicted based on the dynamic response characteristics model of the factory)
Soft sensing for real-time evaluation of quality based on temperature, flow rate, pressure, and other process values
Customized operations
To meet the ever-changing customer needs, Yokogawa is continuously enhancing the functionality of this suite, and the release of version R5.03 meets the industry’s urgent need to enhance the interoperability and security of factory systems.
characteristic
1. Function extension
A) Support OPC UA
Version 5.03 supports the latest version of OPC UA for OPC communication standards. OPC is a widely used data exchange standard in the field of industrial automation. Support for the latest OPC version enables users to securely exchange data with OPC UA devices and process data from a wider range of sources.
B) Add a new Basic Layer Control (BLC) model
Proportional Integral Differential (PID) control logic has been added to the new BLC model. This model utilizes the PID parameters of a Distributed Control System (DCS) to represent the dynamic characteristics of the PID loop. Reduced process mismatch in BLC model description to improve control.
C) Extension from Shed logic to event logic
Shed logic is a customized feature used by applications. Using Shed logic, users can customize applications to adapt to the operating conditions of the factory. Shed logic has expanded its functionality to event logic, eliminating the need for custom code and enabling event based processing for measurement validation, model changes, and more. Shed Logic, now known as event logic, has extended functionality, eliminates the need for custom code, and enables event based processing for metric validation, model changes, and more.
Peng logic is now referred to as event logic, which allows for measurement and validation based on event processing, model changes, and more without the need for custom code extensions.
