On November 13, 2017, the secure and seamless connection between equipment and enterprises was a prerequisite for achieving digital transformation in process operations. Rockwell Automation’s PlantPAx Distributed Control System (DCS) has already implemented this connection through close integration with plant level automation technology and the adoption of open communication standards. At present, Rockwell Automation is about to launch new enhanced features on this platform, helping to create greater value for the process operations of the entire factory and even the entire enterprise.
“By 2018, the new innovative features of PlantPAx DCS will enable users’ process operations to make another leap in intelligence, safety, robustness, and productivity,” said Jim Winter, Global Process Business Director at Rockwell Automation, “The new version of PlantPAx DCS incorporates valuable suggestions from process users and aligns with the highest industry standards, aiming to create greater value for the process industry. By leveraging these innovative features, enterprises will leverage the advantages of DCS systems to more easily and effectively leverage the full plant level integration of interconnected enterprises.”
The new version of PlantPAx DCS can help users reduce unexpected downtime and improve system availability. At the same time, it also supports Parallel Redundancy Protocol (PRP), which is an industry standard for redundant Ethernet and helps improve the security of control systems and I/O communication.
The new version of PlantPAx DCS has also been upgraded and improved in terms of human-machine interface (HMI) and trend analysis tools, effectively improving productivity and operational efficiency, and enhancing maintenance functions. It incorporates an enhanced process object library to better align with industrial display design standards. Through this extended library, users can easily integrate with electrical protection equipment based on Ethernet/IP and IEC-61850 communication standards. This will further extend the entire plant level control capability and interface with electrical management and control systems, avoiding duplicate infrastructure construction, and thereby reducing implementation difficulty and total cost of ownership.
As the Rockwell Automation Fair approaches, the 2017 Process Solutions User Group (PSUG) meeting will be held on November 13th and 14th at the George R Brown Convention Center in Houston, where process users, partners, and original equipment manufacturers can gain a deeper understanding of the upcoming new features.
